I'm interesting in looking up a compact camera for a 3 month wilderness trip.

Here are some of the things to consider:

First of all, I've been usuing Canon digital SLR's for about 3 years now so keep that in mind, in other words - I dont think I'll be able to put up with a little compact that is too limiting. I want to have a decent amount of control over the pictures...otherwise that will dirve me crazy.

The other thing, I have a tone of CF memory, I dont want to switch memory styles.

Also, if there was a camera that had some wicked awesome battery life...wow...that would be cool!

Price isnt as much of a deal as function, smallness, and battery life.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all,
Zach

There are many very good compact cameras on the market, which will fit all your needs. For example Canon S5 IS, G9, 720 IS, Nikon P5100, Olympus SP-560 UZ etc.
You said battery life is an important point. You have to obtain AA lithium, CRV3, or AA Oxyride batteries.

You'll be hard pressed to find a compact with CF card these days, but SD cards are much cheaper so it's not too bad, but after what you've said I'd go with the G9.
