Scott Kelby recomends a font called Minion for labeling frames. I do not seem to have this included with Photoshop CS. I assume this has to be purchased seperately but would appreciate any input including any simular fonts that might be included with the program. I have contacted Adobe customer support but they do not seem to be much help.

This is the font but is is not included on my list of fonts that came with my version of Photoshop CS. I have the educational version but I would assume the included fonts would be the same. It seems hard to believe that photoshop would make me purchase this seperatly.

You don't have to buy it. You download it and save the font file to the C:. Then go to contol panel>fonts>(when you are in fonts)file>add a font Then find C: and click it and it will add it to the system font dir.

My conscience gets to me... This doesn't look or sound like it is a free font.

"The Institution has purchased this font under a site license agreement with Adobe Systems." So this is an Adobe font, that Smithsonian purchased from Adobe. The fact that THEY purchased it and licensed it doesn't mean that Photorob or anybody has purchased it or licensed it.

They seem to have made a mistake by posting this on an Internet website rather than a company web site.

My conscience is done. What you do is now on your conscience.

There are tons of fonts available, freely and without need for license or purchase, on the web. This is a very common looking font to a layman or semi-layman like myself. It's a nice font, but hundreds of similar fonts exist. Some designer at Smithsonian and Scott Kelby like this font enough to use it, but that doesn't mean that you can't find a free font that's similar, or even totally different but that you like.

Nobody is making you purchase this font. But many many many fonts exist for purchase. Fonts are big business, and they are not easy to create - there is a LOT of work involved. I can easily imagine that even a simple font would take one person several weeks to create them correctly - that is, to the extent of the quality that Adobe does.

I once modified a font, simply changing the serifs to match a design someone wanted. I spent about 12-14 hours simply changing the tips of each letter. I didn't have to create anything, or enter hinting or kerning or baseline information, or test it at various sizes, or ensure that the data matched specifications, or that it converted to Postscript and TrueType correctly, and so on and so on. There is a LOT of work that goes into a quality font like the ones from Adobe. They deserve to be paid.

Sorry, I just googled Minion Font, & that was the 1st link.

I read the all of the pages on that site, and there is nothing that states you cannot use it.

there is a contact page, if you want to ask. (just to be sure)

I don't use the font, so I don't know the answer.

Good luck.

Hmm.. it doesn't look so sweet when installed.. the gifs on the site it looks better?

A true type font can be intalled merely by dropping the font into yout "font" folder in the wondows directory by the way.

Some handy font tools to look up that were freeware at least back when I go them are "AMP Font Viewer" and Ziff Davis' freeware "Fveiwer"

Thanks for all the great help. I talked to two tech. support reps at Adobe and got nowhere. Went to Barnes and Noble and picked up every fat book on Photoshop and got no help. This site as always seems to be the best source of info.
