Ok so I built my ringlight about 2 months ago and really just never got around to using it. I purchased it at home depot, it was a fluorescent replacement for a lamp. Came with everything in one box. So I removed the center part and extended the wires. I glued the light into a 8" (IIRC) pie "pan" from the store. I drilled a 4" hole in the center and covered the jagged edges with electrical tape, as to not scratch the hood on my 24-70. You can see the crappy pictures below of the setup, but these are my first results. One being of my mother, the other of the new kitten (obviously the pictures would be better with editing, such as the string in the cat picture)....

Cool idea :) What kind of exposure settings are you getting? It doesn't seem like it would put out a whole lot of light.

Nice result. Only thing that distracted me a bit was the gap from the light. I suppose that is fixable really.

I would be really interested in what type of exposure speeds you are getting from it

Wow, those catchlights look awesome with the ringlight. I agree with elysium though, the gap in the light (ballast of the florescent bulb) is kind of annoying. It would be much better if you had a bulb that had two half-circles (so there would be two gaps at each end of the bulb).

Troubleshooting 101 (see also: LightRules,perryge):
1) RTFM.
2) Repeat Step 1.

Thanks! The settings for the picture of my mother are:

ISO400
70mm
f/3.2
1/160th

Cat picture:

ISO400
46mm
f/4.0
1/100th

I agree about the light not being a full circle....but for my total investment of $16 I love it :)
