I'm considering buying a 17-40 L or maybe just an ultra wide prime. I'd like some feedback on people who have both L and non L and have found a keeper.

bob_r Goldmember More info | Dec 15, 2007 11:30 | #6 Not sure what "the best" would reference, but probably the most used is the 17-55. Canon 7D, 5D, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L, 200L, 10-22, 17-55, 70-300, 100-400L, 500D, 580EX(2).

I find the first two nearly flawless, focusing and optical characteristics. sigma 30 is soft in the corners, canon 85 has purple fringing wide open, and canon 50 is slightly soft wide open. My Flickr
