This pair showed up today in my backyard. I have not seen anything like them around my house before. I looked in the bird books that I have and am fairly certain that these are Cedar Waxwings. I am quite happy with this shot. It was taken with my DRebel, Sigma 70-300 at 300 mm. and a distance of around 35 ft. through a window in my porch handheld! Oh for a 600mm. L :(

Nice shots. I am hopeing to get a shot at them in about two months. They seem to show up at my house for only about a week.

I think with the reddish undertail they might be bohemian waxwings. Nice capture!

They are Bohemian Waxwings. Apparently they are rather tame as they come from the northern forests where few people are around, so a closer approach may be possible.

Thanks for the replies. I did see the entry on the Bohemian, but not being familiar with either of these went with the Cedar. If they are out around again I will definately try and get closer. I wasn't sure if they would be scared off if I tried going outside. Most times the birds in the trees fly off when we go out the back door.

Hopefully they will stay for a bit so I can get some more shots.

Very nice catch. I have never seen a Bohemian Waxwing. They are fruit eaters. They might stay around if there is still food for them. The Cedar Waxwings I have seen were oblivious to people. :)

Nice catch. I've seen the Cedar, but not the Bohemian variety. Thanks for sharing.

Nice capture. Never seen either the "cedar" or the "Bohemian" variety.
