I DONT LIKE IT!

It doesnt seem to transfer my RAW files! I knew I took more pics than what transfered into my folder and I was right.. I opened the drive up through my computer and i saw the raw files in there that were on the card...

I also didnt notice the files to transfer any faster than just doing it with the camera...

Have to manually enter folder destination and names.. I DONT like this...

Are there advantages to using these I dont know about!?

This sucks, i'd MUCH rather keep using my camera to transfer my files...

I have the Sandisk Extreme USB versions. I liked the first one enough to buy a 2nd. Can't help you though because I don't know your procedure. I'm transferring and importing via Lightroom.

Hi Marcus, sorry about the difficulty. I bought the $19.95 sandisk reader about 2 years ago, and it works fine, USB connect. I'm not sure what's causing your problem, but here's how I run mine.

I put the CF card in the reader, the green light starts flashing to signify "reading," and then I just use Windows (XP Pro) explorer to open up that (card reader) directory since it sees it as a drive. I see a list of all the files I shot, highlight them, write click, click on copy, and then paste all those files into the target/client directory I've created.

I'm sure there are shorter ways to do this, but I find this to be very secure against "losing" anything in the process. Hope this helps. - Stu

I have no idea about your technique or workflow but you are not doing something right. Honestly get a card reader and dump transferring from the camera to the computer. I've never done that. I have a Dell 2405FPW with a card reader built in and I love it. Flaming fast.

I never transferred directly from my camera - I just didn't want to have to bother with taking it out of the case, powering it up, running the cables. The little Sandisk just sits there all the time, out of the way.

I'm betting there's something very easy and simple you're missing Marcus. Once you figure it out you'll enjoy the speed and convenience of the card reader :D.

I bought one about a week ago and really like it. The speed compared to transferring directly from the camera far outweighs having to manually make a folder and transfer the files.

Insert card into reader. Insert reader in USB port. Lightroom/Your Software and/or your OS should activate a windows saying "WTF dude, where to put this shiz at?"

Manually? WTH are you doing?

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Well up until just now I've always transfered them into My Documents, then into my photo folder where I would then make a folder like 2007_12_17 (as the camera does) and put everything in there. Though Iput a CF card in now and just realized Adobe Bridge will do all of that for me. Now isn't that dandy.

Wow...you know that you just bought a reader... it's not supposed to do the thinking for you....in addition in order to take advantage of the reader's extreme reading capabilities, what SD/CF are you using?

Other than that, use ACDSEE, Lightroom, etc to do the automation for you if you really want it all.

Assuming you're using the supplied Canon software to transfer from your camera, you can use the exact same software to transfer from the card reader. I use Zoombrowser to automatically create folders and transfer images. Works a charm.

I'll take some of these suggestions and see if I can make this work better... The ease of using the camera to do the same job is great... I see NO difference in the speed using the camera vs the reader.... I HATE taking my card out of the camera, opening my computer, copying and pasting the files... Dumb!

The camera's software makes it sooooo damn easy to use and sorts my pics just perfect... I'm gonna give this thing a another chance, but so far i'm NOT a fan!

Probably selling this...

Maybe your computer doesn't support USB2.0? Assuming you're not using the Firewire version of the card reader. You never did specify.
