I dont know if this is the right section but i am looking to borrow this lens to shoot a school production on Wednesday as i am a teacher and have been asked. I have a 50mm 1.8 but think it will be too short so been trying to rent this lens. Calumet does stock this version and the only other place i have found is in Vauxhall which is too far. Does anyone know where i can rent or borrow one for cheap. I live in Islington but the school is in Enfield. I have a Canon 400D. Thanks for your help in advance

I shoot shoot production before, and the 85mm 1.8 does great, but I found it limited in reach. Since you're renting a lens, I think you should rent the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS. I don't think the cost different would be much. Since you are a Teacher, tell the place you're renting at that. They mite give you a Teacher/Student discount.

Current: Canon 40D w/BG-E2N, Canon 30D, Canon 10-22mm, Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS w/EW-83J, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS, Canon 580EX II, Crumpler 6 Million Bag, and B+W MRC on all my glass.

if i were you i would rent to 20-200 IS. but also.. i wouldnt worry about renting it. i would just spend the 300 and buy the 85 1.8 you will get your moneys worth. i hear its a great lens, and its on my list to get soon.

The 100 and 135 don't cost much more to buy so I'm guessing they won't cost that much more to rent.

But I agree with Baddrummerboy, the 70-200 2.8 IS is one lovely piece of kit and would be better for your needs, if money permits.

I meant if you want to buy a lens then the longer primes (100mm and 135mm) don't cost much more than the 85mm if you thought the 85mm wasn't long enough.

If you want to rent a lens then the best one you could rent would be the 70-200 L mentioned earlier.

It all depends on your finances really. The 85mm might be good enough for your needs, it depends how big the room is and where you're standing etc

85mm should be long enough but dont have the funds to buy at the moment. I am moving to hong kong in the new year and it cost about 150 there but about 250 here. I am looking to rent for a short period. Does anyone know of anywhere else.

Thanks for all the help so far.

aa,

I'd lend you my 70-200 but you'd have to come and get it ;) I almost bought the 85 1.8 as it would be a great low light portrait lens. Do you have another lens longer than the 50? If so, and you are allowed, why not rent a flash?
