Got a quick shot of this little guy, nothing special, but somehow I`m pleased with this shot.

Like you said, nothing special.

The photo could use more contrast, especially since it's a b/w...I'm not a fan of the selective coloring either.

It's a nice shot, but the B&W conversion is pretty flat and dark. If you'd like to turn on your image editing permission, we could help.

Try this (assuming you're in Photoshop):
Change the image mode to Lab. Click on "Lightness" in the Channels palette. If you like the direction it takes the image, covert to Grayscale mode, then to RGB. You can then paste the eyes back in if you'd like to use color. Use a Curves adjustment layer to fine tune the image.
