Noticed that when I connect the 5D to PC via USB cable it has stopped showing 'busy' although the EOS Utility works fine. Any idea of why this has happened?

The 40D I bought last week shows 'busy' when connected.

By the way the 5D stopped showing busy before I got the 40D and updated to the latest Canon software.

two things i never do is connect my camera to the computer or use canon software. when i did use canon software (many cameras ago) it was buggier than a party at henry kissinger's :D.

If you don't connect your cameras to your computer how do you get the clocks in five or six bodies all set within a second each week? I won't even ask about studio workflow.

not an issue for me. i have two cameras and they could be set a week apart for all i know (or care). besides synchronizing a bunch of cameras has nothing to do with what the OP is asking.

Aha, I was hoping you had some other way to do all this stuff ... but you simply don't do it! Silly me. I do it all and much as I agree that Canon software is very poorly written (and broken) and documented, for some things it is all that's easily available. I won't ask your advice on using the WFT-E2A wireless transmitter.:lol::lol:

You ridin'? Ostrichland is a blight on the landscape! Have you been to Quicksilver Miniature Horse Ranch on Alamo Pintado? Now that's class and great photo-op!

That WFT thing is just another expensive gadget ... forget it.

i've used the supplied canon software since i bought my 30D and now the 40D with no troubles (touch wood). my cameras (both) sometime show 'busy' AFTER all images are finished loading onto the pc, i turn the camera 'off' and, disconnect the cable, and things have been fine, no problems. i think the 'busy' must be a bug in the software, as mentioned. it's not telling the camera, 'we are done now'.

lord no i'm watching and shooting. the top bike racers in the world race the tour of california and the best stages to view and photograph will be in palo alto, san jose and solvang this year.

lucky me :D!

i'll have to check out the horse ranch my wife would love pictures. ostrichland might be a blight but it's one of the first thing that comes to mind when i think of the santa ynez valley....and i sure hope they are open when the bike race comes to town :D.

You didn't answer the OP's question either.;)

To OP, I don't know why it wouldn't say "Busy", but I haven't hooked my camera to the computer in a while. If it still works fine, I wouldn't worry too much.

:) well I'd also have to get some kind of extension for it else a card reader big enough to hold a CF would block the only other USB port on the laptop which by the way is used to drive the external hard drive I load the pix on :)

Anyway as stated the cable works fine and as previous poster said...it's not an issue, and I'm not worried about it...just wondered if this started happening to others.
Jamie
ps So what software do you use Ed? Hope this doesn't take the whole thing off topic but interestingly quite a few folks clearly don't use the Canon stuff.
