I've thought about this a lot lately, because what goes around, comes around. This is not a bragging thread, just one to show there are good things going on. And you can also say what others have done for you.

1. At Union Station, I saw a Mom taking a picture of her son in front of the train display. I walked up to her and volunteered to take a shot of the two of them. She smiled and said she'd love it. So, I took the picture. It turned out great.

2. I volunteered to take a picture of every 5th grader in my son's class for a holiday gift to the families and am not charging for it. It took me 4 hours to PP and print at home so the pictures were almost perfect.

3. My best friend asked if I could mat and frame a picture her grandfather took 80 years ago from Norway. He was a famous photographer, last name is Olson, I think. He took this stunning picture of a village, colorized it perfectly and she got a copy from the daughter of the woman who commissioned the picture. Priceless. So, I'm doing that today for my best friend.

I hope everyone will take the time to spread the love with the gifts we've been given. Happy holidays!

I'm donating a computer to one of my wife's less fortunate but obscure relatives way up north. Was up until midnight making it newbie proof. We're taking advantage of some relatives driving way up there for Christmas to deliver it so the cost is kept to a minimum.

I've not seen poverty in Canada like I have in the States. But this family needs a hand. Kids need to know how to run a computer to survive in the world of tomorrow.

I'm also doing a staff portrait for my wife's company pro-bono today. 50 people. Glad I have a full frame camera and a UWA!

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

This pales in comparison to you all, but I've probably baked about 3,000 cookies for my kids' teachers, speech therapists and friends. I also bought gifts for their teachers because I know they don't make oodles of money and they give it their all every day.

Oh, I forgot:

4. My MathCounts students yesterday had a party. We ordered Chinese :) But two actually gave me nice gifts. I was so touched. Nothing like a MkIII, but sweet and I so love those students. One was a Starbuck's gift card! I don't drink coffee, but they have the best dark hot chocolate around. :) I'm happy.

The only thing I can really think of is buying my father in law a wireless router to enable him to buy stuff online with his new wii.

I haven't been up to much this holiday season.

I sold my sister my Wii for my 3 nephews for christmas for FAR less than I could have gotten for it. I just wanted them to have something nice, since they don't get much.

That's about as charitable as I can be. I try to do things for people when I'm out and about, though. Take pictures, hold doors, help with groceries (little old ladies :-) ), etc.

I volunteered to do the company's x-mas video to be shown on the company's x-mas dinner.

Result:
- 12700 photos (taken by me during the year, including all workers, all construction sites, company event's, group shot's and department shot's)
- sent more then 20 text messages to everyone i could think of so that i could borrow a video camera
- 5 minutes of video (by the way, i hate video... i'm more of a photo kind of guy...)
- 2 huge head-hakes due to not knowing how to work with adobe premier elements
- 5 liters of coffee
- 11 hour's editing the final product (most due to my lack of experience using adobe premier)

Final result:
- i didn't get invited to the company's dinner (my boss says he forgot to tell me, funny how he managed to invite the other IT department workers, but he failed to invite the IT department's manager witch is me...)
- he toke credit for my work on the presentation
- and he didn't even say "thanks" or "good work"

Haaaaa.... don't you just love the x-mas spirit?!?....

Sorry for my ranting... but i'm just a bit p****d off.... er... i mean.... ticked off....

My sons Lacrosse team "adopted a family" with 9 foster children ranging in ages 3 to 16. My wife collected 600.00 cash, had a church donate a Christmas tree and stand. We also donated our 36 inch Sony t.v that we haven't used in a couple of years. We've been blessed to be able to "indulge" in the latest technology: It would have been a crime to just throw out a perfectly good t.v. . We also prchased an outfit and toy for each kid. On Saturday we're going to the house and decorate the tree and the outside of the house. With all the craziness in the world today, we kinda get caught up and forget how lucky we are. After we're done, we're going to a 101 year old womans house we delivered a Thanksgiving dinner to and bring her a little something and a nice pointsetta
Happy Holiday's to all
Jim

Great work, everyone. And Joao, I feel badly that you didn't get the credit you deserve. But as I stated, what goes around, comes around. So hopefully, you can use that "favor" in the future when your promotion is coming up. :)

When my friends and family asked what I wanted for Christmas, I sent them to Heifer International (external link) rather than have them buy me more stuff to clutter up my apartment. There's really nothing that I need (and nothing that I want that they would put out the money for!) and at least this is helping someone else.

So far I have 2 flocks of chicks and a goat! :)

Isn't there a saying that charity begins at home? So adhering to that, I bought myself a new 1DsMKIII, after buying a 1DMKIII, and after buying a Sigma 12-24, a Canon 14L, and a 24mm Tilt shift. Damn, I'm good to myself.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, over the course of the year we've given probably in excess of $50k to various charities of my wife's choosing, most notably sponsoring orphans in various countries, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Indian charities, and on and on.

Good thing there's money left in the coffers: I can smell that 35 f1.4 in the closet waiting for me.

(Okay, the first paragraph was a joke; don't attack, people. Well, the stuff I got is true, but I was just joking around as I tend to do on rare occasion. )

I work in the medical field so I bascially try to give my patients the care and comfort they deserve. Some of them will not be home to spend time this family season. So I cheer them up and give them a smile.
