Soldered a bolt to the PCB and attached a 1/2 wave...nothing!! I am so annoyed.

i did the antenna and AA battery mod and love it. Definitely improved the overall functionality of the triggers.

soldered a bolt?

heres an easy way to do it
take a strand of cable off some network cable
strip off a little off the end to be soldered onto the board
measure 6" of cable not including the little part you stripped off...
solder onto the board
coil it up and lay it inside the housing

i've read the coiling method sometimes doesn't provide the same increase in performance. But I do agree, definitely no need for a bolt?

the 433MHz antenna I bought terminates solely in a thread. Ergo, the need for a bolt to hold it in place which needs to be conductive

if it works with a bolt then doesn't matter all the power to ya. But you don't actually need one, soldering the wire to the board is fine.

I know - but then how does one attach the aerial :D

It doesn't work, so I'm gonna try with the coil

I read strobe monkey's flickr post + photos (external link) and modded my Cactus trigger (non V2s) a couple of weeks ago. I did not see much improvement in range after the mod on my trigger though I followed through all the details in the instruction.

So, I drilled a small hole on the top cover this morning. Pulled out the wire coil through the hole. Now I can see much better improvement in range.

With wire embedded in the trigger, I get around 25-30 ft. but a lot of misfire above that range.

With wire out straight up like an antenna, I am getting around 50-70 ft. and it works fine. I hope this will help to those who want to mod their Cactus triggers.

That is exactly what I did to mine. After replacing the batteries they fire extremely reliably.

Troubleshooting 101 (see also: LightRules,perryge):
1) RTFM.
2) Repeat Step 1.
