Hey guys, I've been browsing around the forum for a little while but haven't posted much. I've had an S3 for almost the last year and have been slowly but surely getting into taking some great shots with it as I learn to use it.

I just finished school this week and now that I'll have a little more time on my hands, I want to get a couple of lenses (Macro, Wide Angle, etc) to have a little more fun with the shots I can take. Just wondering if anybody could recommend me some reasonably priced but high quality lenses (don't want to go for the ebay cheapies) for these purposes. I saw a site recommended here a little while back but can't seem to remember it or find it now. I know very little about various lenses so as specific as the advice/recommendation can get, the better.

My first priority is probably a good macro setup for the S3. I love macro shooting have had some amazing results on Super-macro mode but want to get into some of the shots that I've been seeing on this forum with dew drop refractions and insects that look like monsters :D. Also, is there a special flash set-up for these purposes?? Secondly would be a nice wide lens I think for scenery shots unless there is a better recommendation for a second lens.

Thanks very much for any help.

I've got the SONY 1.7x teleconverter and Sony closeup lens, I know that there are people here that use them on their S2/S3 IS. They are genuine Sony, cost me over $100 for the t-con and over $60 for the closeup when I got them new. I had a Sony H5 which uses the same filter thread size as the Canon. The t-con is very sharp and the closeup lens is not the most powerful, however you can stack closeup lenses to increase their effect. I really liked my closeup lens cause I could do nice macro shots as well as keep it on the camera and still take pictures of my cats or whatever as long as they weren't too far away.

Check out my thread I have them for sale now! (Sold the Sony to get Rebel XTi)

Also check out the sticky on macro with the A70. The method there is readily applicable to any of the A- or S- series PowerShot cameras.

You write, " Iwant to get a couple of lenses (Macro, Wide Angle, etc) to have a little more fun with the shots I can take. Just wondering if anybody could recommend me some reasonably priced but high quality lenses (don't want to go for the ebay cheapies) for these purposes."

In regard to your wide angle, I highly recommend the Raynox DCR-6600Pro High Definition Wide Angle Lens (Converter .66x 52mm) You can preview it on this site:http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/S2wide.html (external link) I recently bought it for $99.95 from 47th Street Photo. I see that B&H sells the Raynox SRW-6600 for $104.99 (see: http://www.nextag.com …66X-500101726/prices-html (external link) ). The explanation given there of the difference between the two models is: "The Raynox SRW-6600-58 Wide Angle Lens has the same high quality optical performance as the renowned DCR-6600PRO Wideangle lens except that SRW-6600-58 does not cause any vignetting of the image with most camera models." I take it that the "58" indicates that it has a 58mm thread mount, and not the 52mm of the DCR-6600, so that it takes a 58mm adaptor. You could call B&H to be sure, I suppose. Lensmate sells both size adapters to fit on the Canon S2, S3, and S5 . The great thing about the Canon DCR-6600 is, as you will see in the sample images, it gives sharp images at around 23mm and yet has little if any barrel effect.
