thank you! i know about the separation, and i figured it was the casing, but the exact placement of where it is makes it look like it could be the round. of course now that i look at it again, it's definitely too big to be a 5.56 round.

Yeah, I agree that the casing placement causes a kind of illusion that it is the bullet coming out, which is pretty cool I think.

Sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II

I found this one locally for sale. I did get some test shots back from the seller and looked good to my eye. This is the newist version of this lens? Correct? And I think Im correct in saying that this lens does not have any type of image stablization? Im new to this and Im tring to read and understand it all but it gets hard to keep up some times...

Thanks for your input.

correct, this one does not have OS (Optical Stabilization), sigma's version of IS. the mkII is the newest version of the lens. i have it, and i love it. the only time i see OS being needed is shooting indoors in low light, otherwise ISO 1600 f/2.8 and i'm good indoors with decent light. otherwise outside, no problems. and that's shooting handheld. what's the iso expand to of the 50D, 3200 or 6400? 3200 on my 5D is usable, not sure how it is on yours. hope this helps.

Ok now the choices are killing me. I have a used one of these lined up to look at for about $600.00. With Canons rebates I can get the 70-200 f4 for $575.00. Im really torn right now. Ups and downs for both.

I know what your first question is going to be.

What are you using it for?

Well. I have my sons graduation coming in June (outdoors in SoCal). I enjoy motor sports and fast action sports and R/C boats along with the big boats that are huge in Washington. I also have a younger son that is going into Jr. High next year so there will be some assemblies that I will have to attend (this will be mostly indoors). So with that said. My guess that mostly I will outdoors with mostly sun for light.

Thoughts?

i can't speak from experience about the 70-200 f4L, but the siggy is 2.8, which sold it to me. if the f4 had IS, then it would be a no brainer, but it doesn't so i would go with the 2.8. that's what i did. 2.8 is much better for indoors, obv, and the only other thing to consider is the weight. the 2.8 is fairly weighty, not sure how light the f4 is.

I like this shot. Has a cool look to it. I would crop it around the players, but that is just personal preference.

Yeah, I think a little bit of the vignette works for this one. Just a lot of dead space to me.
