Body: 1Ds Mk.II
$525.90 CDN - about $527 USD as of this morning's rate.

Leaf shutter replacement at Canon Calgary. 15-20 business days for turnaround. One week from delivery it was entered in the system. No email was sent to me. Daily calls finally located the camera. Not fast enough in my books but it's reasonable.

Entered into their db as 1D Mk.II. CSR spoke perfect english (obviously local to Calgary)

(403) 219-5900. 2828 16 St NE Calgary, AB T2E-7K7

Not that this happens often, but I don't regret sending it in to Calgary. Future though? I'll deal strictly with Irvine. They are faster and cheaper. No problems getting it back over the border as it's service and I can pick it up across the line. Irvine will not ship BACK to Canada, but will accept equipment from Canada. Irvine has an online tracking system for repairs and estimates. Calgary does not.

Just a simple, searchable FYI for fellow POTN'ers

Thanks for sharing the info. I wonder if the cost of replacement is the same for all Canon SLRs or if this price is specific to the 1Ds Mk.II.

I'm curious as to why you sent the camera all the way to Calgary. Don't we have a service facility here in the Vancouver area? Also, I'm wondering why you prefer Irvine. Lucky for me, I have a home in San Diego which is a driveable distance to Irvine so that might be an option for me if I ever need it.

PS: Your retort doesn't really suck and blow - it's just sometimes a bit harsh and not what people want to hear. :P

There is no service center for 1 series cameras in Vancouver.

Yeah, theres just a Canon certified shop in Surrey I think that does P&S repairs only. But they wanted a deposit from me to fix my recalled A70 so I shipped it to Calgary and it was back in 4 days.

There ought to be a sticky forum for repair estimates.

My XTi just went in to have a back focus problem and under-exposing problem checked. $205.72 (US) 8-10 days to return from NJ.
