Hello,
I noticed this fellow this morning - he sure does not look well. His tail is pretty thin and he also has some different coloring on his back. I have never seen him here before.
He needs to grow some better wintercoat - it will get cold again, after all - this is Canada!!

Thanks CanGirl!
We had beautiful weather this last week. Right now it is plus 4 and sunny.
He looks pretty sad, I wish I could help him too but also I would not trust him.
I just watch them from the deck - they go by at least once a day. Our dog is always on a leash and the cat does not go outside. There are so many coyotes around here and seems like more every year.
Have a great evening!

yah you never know if he has something that can spread, oh well thats nature. By the way i'm so jealous that you get animals like that in the backyard, all I ever see is the odd squirrel lol I've been dying to see the rest of Canada but everyone wants to go south to the beaches while I just wanna go north for once!

Poor thing. Looks like he's in the early stages of mange. You can see the hair on his legs & belly is very thin too.

He's been ostracized from the pack due to his age. I'm also willing to bet he dont make it through the winter.

Thanks guys and gals for your comments!
I agree with you - he might not be around in the spring. I will keep my eyes open for him. So sad, but i guess we all get old...

If we are lucky...

In the UK, a vet will give you something to put in the food which will help you get rid of mange in the local affected foxes. But you need to be able to feed it.

Mange is not a good thing, I saw an animal run across the road one time while I was driving and I didn't even know what it was. All I could think of was a coyote with no hair and a rat tail. It was down in the Arizona desert, and I'm sure it died in a few days. I heard the fish and game shot about 100 of them down in the desert, because of mange. It spreads really fast and there were just too many of them running around. steve

That poor guy won't make it trough the winter with that mange. Mange can kill both young and old coyotes. Hard to age the one in the photo without looking at it's teeth.
