You're going to want to try the Processing and Printing forum for this. You're in the G forum.

I have the 2400 at work. It's fantastic but the ink and paper are very expensive and you're more or less stuck using Epson-brand paper and inks. I don't know what kind of work you do, but there are a lot of much-cheaper printers that make pretty decent prints, My Canon Pixma prints look better than anything I get from Walgreens, but if it's important to you to have the best archival-quality prints possible, those high-end Epsons are the way to go.

Considering the price, and media and maintenance costs, unless you're planning on using it a lot, you might be better off getting a cheaper printer for everyday use and proofing, and sending your high-end work to a photo lab.

Also, switching between Matte and Glossy on the R2400 is sort of a hassle, at least on a Mac, you need to switch inks, restart the printer, and re-choose the driver in your printer setup menu to see the matte paper options. It might be a little easier on a Windows computer.

I don't have a 2400, I have a 2200 that I use with an ImagePrint RIP. I agree with the comments above about the ink, but I do not agree that you are stuck with Epson Paper. All of my favorite papers that I are not made by Epson except for Velvet Fine Art. The other non-Epson paper I use are Inkjet Art Microceramic Luster as a replacement for Epson Premium Luster; it has a larger color gamut than Premium Luster, a finer stipple, and is literally half the cost. I also really like Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl. For black and white printing, I really like Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl, prints done in B&W using Photo Black ink on this paper and my ImagePrint RIP look stunning. For a matte paper, my favorite is Epson's Velvet Fine Art, which is the same paper at Somerset Velvet, but with Epsons optical brighteners added. A beautiful paper. Profiles for all these papers are available for free for color management.
