Any fast 35mm equivalent for 1.6x crop?

I know about Canon's 24L, which seems to be the closest I can find to a fast *about* 35mm equivalent.

I was hoping I could get some other ideas, as I am coming up empty. Here's what I'd like:
-about 35mm equivalent on 1.6x crop body
-fast, at least f/2
-acceptable by f/2, really sharp by f/2.8
-does not have to be AF (so this opens it up to lots of MF lenses I know nothing about)
-should be as good or better than 24L if it costs more
-as cheap as possible, or I might as well go with the 24L, right...

Thanks in advance for any creative/helpful answers you may give.

Zeiss 35mm 2.4 with M42 to EOS mount. MF but lovely lens, otherwise not much choice for cheap. The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is very godd and the 35mm 2.0 from Canon is also decent. 35mm equivelent you will struggle. Why do you need that specifically?

If you would simply ask your question as: I'm looking for a fast lens of about 21mm focal length......., you wouldn't confuse people like your question has. Who cares what the "equivalent 35mm camera focal length" is?

If folks would converse only in terms of actual focal length rather than "equivalent focal length" or other similar ultra-vague terms, there would be a lot less misunderstanding about what's being discussed.

When comparing field of view on different formats, the camera format being used and the format being compared against should be mentioned as well.

When asking for the "best portrait lens" - and especially when answering that sort of question - the camera format MUST be mentioned along with the focal length.

The Sigma 20mm f/1.8 is the only alternative to the 24L I can think of. Of the old manual focus lenses I don't know of any 21mm lenses faster than f/2.8 (a lot were f/3.5). There were one or two 24mm f/2.0 lenses, Kiron being one I can remember, which seemed well-regarded. Your options for very fast lenses at those focal lengths are limited.

Well, there's always the Zeiss 21mm Distagon. Sure, it's only f/2.8, and it's a couple thousand dollars, but it's reported to be the best wide angle lens ever produced. :)

In a more reasonable price range ($1000), the Olympus 21mm f/2 is reported to be truly an outstanding lens. Of course, whether the pain of manual focus combined with stop down metering makes it worth it is another thing entirely.

Thats about the only one I can think of - gets some mixed reviews though...
The Canon 20mm is only f/2.8 and the next ones up (excluding the 24L) are the 24mm f/2.8 and the 28mm f/1.8

As Condyk pointed out, there are a few MF options with adaptors, it may pay you to visit the Manual Focus Forum (external link) for advice on these.

You could always get a FF body and a 35L ;)

many 20mm MF lenses are out there (for use on EOS with an adapter) for under $200...with the huge depth of field focusing is irrelevant and their excellent IQ makes them bargains...

Both Nikon and Olympus made a 24 f2 lens for their manual cameras. These can be bought cheaply and adapters are available to mount onto your camera. Might be worth trying the manual route before dropping big bucks on the 24L

The best bargain 21mm manual focus lens is the Olympus Zuiko 21mm f/3.5. It's not that fast, but it's got incredible image quality, and it costs between $379 and $600 at KEH, depending on condition. For the extra stop, the Olympus 21mm f/2 has almost the exact same image quality, but 1 2/3 extra stops and goes for around $1000. Both of these rival the king..the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8.

Nobody seems to talk about the Canon 20mm f/2.8 USM - Is it a pile of poo?

This would give you 32mm fov on a 1.6x crop - I like a 35mm fov on FF/35mm although it is a bit slow for a prime.
