I was doing some research on the holocaust when I came across these horrendous pictures (external link) of women being executed by Latvian police during the Holocaust.

Warning: these pictures are very explicit!

I can't believe human beings can be so evil to resort to these kinds of atrocities on fellow human beings - and yet it still goes on today in many parts of the world.

I would suggest visiting one of the places, like German **** concentration and extermination camps: Auschwitz-Birkenau or Stutthof. Those are the places I've visited and I know that I will never forget them. Those pictures are nothing comparing to visiting those places.

the mass-murder camps were developed after the einsatzgruppen reached the limits of their ability to kill in small scale at close range.

you can read this (external link) or this (external link) for information about the einsatzgruppen. I recommend the Goldhagen book (the second).

Unfortunately we have too many who claim the holocaust never happened and all of those photos were staged using refugees as the victims. After the photographs were taken everyone stood up got dressed and got a free meal. All of those making these ignorant claims are Jew haters of course.

When I was in Munich we were supposed to visit Dachau and I couldn't bring myself to go. It's hard to imagine the level of cruelty it takes to do these things but it vividly demonstrates the horrible capability of man. How anyone could deny this ever happened is beyond me.

I've visited Dachau... a very moving place. I also did a lot of research on Hitler for my Masters. There is so much more to this than everyone generally knows.. but the headline is the same.. cruelty we cannot comprehend these days.

Indeed two things you will notice, is how big the graves are and the fact you don't hear birds chirping away. A very eerie experience.

An unfortunate choice of words, however harrowing visiting these sites is (I have been to Dachau, Bergen-Belson & Auschwitz-Birkenau) there is no way that you can say that these pictures are nothing.

Correct ... and unless there is oil or some other strategic advantage Governments who could step in choose not to.

Too bad it's still going on all over the world. I hope future generations are truthful when talking about our complacency in Darfur, Bosnia, Congo, etc.

Don't forget that Hitler was elected in an open election. Don't think your vote don't count.

It could happen again....
