We've got about 50-60 of these little guys eating us out of house and home. Two large Nyjer feeders are emptied each day and a half!

Too bad they don't like the Hawthorn berries. ;) Where are the Pine Grosbeaks when you need them?

Thanks rw2. We replaced a Mountain Ash with the Washinton Hawthorne, but despite the similar color to the Ash, the berries are not as popular.

Thanks Gary. That means a lot coming from all the fabulous shots you take! :-)

Thanks bugaboo. I was about 20' away from the bird, and my roof was another 20-25' away, providing the backdrop at f8.0.

Thanks Steve. I'm not sure if they are 'imported'. I always assumed they were indigenous, but I do see some references to India. I'll have to do a little more research.

Carl, very nice composition, and your welcome to send some over here. I have been keeping my eyes open for some to show up here. They seem to be everywhere else. ;)

Well done Carl, composition is sweet! I have some of these little dudes here for the first time ever. Counted 54 evening Grosbeaks here a day or two ago also.

Thanks Mitch. They started here with just one or two birds. I'm waiting for the Pine Siskins to show up and bankrupt my birdseed account!

Thanks Zip! Cool on the Grosbeaks. I wish we'd get some of them!

Thanks downy. We used to have a Mountain Ash there with even prettier orange berries, but kept losing the trees to borers, so the Washington Hawthorne was a more hardy replacement.

Thanks Sindri. These guys are flighty, but if you move slowly you can get close. This morning I got within 4 feet of them when filling the feeders.

Lovely image, Carl. Great composition.

Thanks Anke. I usually strive for composition, though it is nice to get those close portrait shots too.

Very nice shot, Carl. Perfect setting. I'd love to see some Redpolls down here but they rarely make it this far south.
