I know this is rather trivial,my wife would say its anal.
But does anyone sell a nice black slip on hotshoe cover? I don't use on camera flash much and hate the way the silver hotshoe looks on top, kinda looks like something from inside the camera is sticking out. I'm looking for a nice sleak look for the top of my 40D.:D

This one will probably do the trick: http://www.mycanong7.com/html/g7_accessories.html (external link)

Here's a link to some better photos showing the hot shoe cover (as listed on mycanong7.com) on a G9.
I have one on my 40D and no harm to or interruption of the microswitch or internal flash.

Thanks for all the help! I was thinking, maybe I'll just get some pocket wizards to cover up the hot shoe:D

Or go swipe one from a Noink on display. *averts eyes*

Never noticed for awhile, but Nikon's do have hot shoe covers that don't mess with the flash. Why would Canon? Aniwho, I'm with the OCD thing. 430 is on it most of the time anyhow.

Check this out, he makes ones without the G on it, it covers the entire silver area.

The Nikon one doesn't work on a 40D because of the weather sealing ..... so I have a Nikon cover just sitting in my bag lol

IMHO, the best and most practical hot shoe cover:

I wish my 30D hotshoe was silver...the black is stupid cause it scratches off right away and then looks like crap (I put my flash on twice and it already started to show silver through and look worn).

If you really don't use the hot shoe at all, how about taking a permanent black marker to it? I'd refrain from covering the electrical contacts, but you could easily dull down the silver. I've not tried this, I have either my 580EX2 or my eBay trigger on it to cover the silver ;-)a

One place to try is Lensmate. They carry a line of products for the Cannon G7 & G9 by Richard Franiec Accessories. One of the items is a hot shoe cover. There are two versions; one with a stylized "G" and another is plain. I actually ordered one of each today.

Here's the link: http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_G7_1.html#rf (external link)

Ken

Gear: A bunch of Canon stuff and a bunch of old Olympus 35 mm stuff (OM-1, OM-2, etc).

I just use a low tack scotch tape to cover the shoe mount.
get one of those transparent tapes (normally low adhesive tack) and cover the hot shoe contacts.

that's it!

In order to make Custom Hot Shoe Cover work with 40D you need to select CHSC-ND. This one does not impair function of the onboard flash.
