Was in town visiting in-laws, and had the chance to shoot the University of Louisville Vs. New Mexico State game alongside POTN's own Adam Lewis (whom it was a pleasure to meet in person).

Made me really miss my Alien Bees, though.

The Cards held off a late surge by the Aggies to prevail 70-65.

Adam, I enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing your shots.

Happy holidays to all -

Adam,

I'll be back in Chi-town on the 26th. Take some great shots for me (and my wife).

Chris thanks.

Nice images, Dennis. Tack sharp, and the separation between the player(s) and background really make the images pop.

You really miss your ABs? You mean you'd rather be in a high school dungeon than court side at a college hoops game? Wish I had such a choice.

Really like #1/ I also like the charge of the player in #2 but feel the guy in front is obstructing the image too much.

Amazing clarity, colour and sharpness in all of them.

Thanks for the positive words, everybody.

Darren, I understand your comment on number 2, but in my opinion, the player in front helps to frame the image, and give the ball handler a reason to be making his sharp cut, but composition can be pretty subjective. This shot is maybe a little "cleaner" but I don't think quite as interesting:

I guess maybe I should have said "I miss shooting with strobes" - ambient shooting, even with decent lighting like what exists in Freedom Hall, cuts down on my keeper rate and increases the post-processing time. And, don't forget, with strobes, the darker the venue, the better they work...

I can't deceide which I prefer now, the orignal #2 of the latest image. I can't get off this damn fence!

Nicely done amigo. I have to admit, I am not used to having this much vibrant colors in my images, but based on replies, I would be a fool not to see that your processing of color is much more popular then my more muted colors. Digital has really enabled much more colorful imagery... I need to do some relearning.

Action is nicely captured in these, and while the last image is nice, I do like the context of image 2 better - if I had to pick only one. I am also a sucker for ball on finger tips like the first image. It just feels more suspenseful to me. Good stuff.

Cheers and Merry Christmas, or what ever your holiday persuasion is.

Mark,

Thanks. Actually, the colors on these are a little hotter than I normally see. I went back to the original shots, and darn if the colors PRE processing were just as hot.

Maybe if I shoot at Freedom Hall again I dial thing in camera settings down. Adam, I shot these all the JPEG shots (though I do have the RAW shots that maybe I shoot look at and try to post process them).

Adam,

I like yours better than mine. Nice job. I think Sosa's mom would like your version more, too.

You must have been wider than my 120mm.

wow nice shots, i really need me a 2.8 if I'm going to be shooting basketball for my college newspaper.

question thou, i know nothing about the 1DmkIIn, but i see that your exposure was locked at 1/500sec and aperture at f/2.8, is there a function on the camera that auto sets the iso?
