I really like #2, I think that the darker right side gives the portrait some character, although I would like to see a bit more light on his eyes.
#1 is really clean, although i'm not a fan of the wrincled highlighted spot behind him. That I would photoshop out.

#2 is the best. The lighting is best refined and controlled in this shot(and possibly 3) than any of the others and I think the expression and everything else work as well.

Good job!

I think number two is the best also, I think the ohter three are a little distracting because there is a spill of light on the backdrop that is wrinkled and it causes the eye to drift over and look at it. If the backdrop light was put there on purpose try using a color gel and make if work for you more with color.
Other wise, You are going to be great a portraits, especially if this is your first go at it.
Keep up the great work.

- yeah the teacher had all the gear laid on the floor and was like put it all together and take a shot...the backdrop was wrinkled (because it was stuffed in the bag) but i got to play around with the light.

Thanks for all the input guys - I hope i get more opportunities to show!

I like # 4. More for the expression than the exposure. Thanks for posting.
