hey guys

i just noticed this today when i was going through a few pictures in lightroom.

i took a few pictures of a car that was red, but when i load them onto lightroom, they appear to be the same color out of the camera, but after the picture fully loads, the red becomes slightly desaturated.

what is causing this color change? is it my color profiles?

thanks

eric

Did you shoot in raw?

If so LR only adds +50 brightness and leaves the rest up to you. The pic in camera would be what the pic would look like if it was jpeg (or close to it), hence a more saturated color.

Also I shoot with the 30D and I noticed that the reds specifically sometimes seem to lack so I use a preset meant for the 30D. It is the ACR defaults for the 30D.

LR first displays the built in jpg, then reads the Raw file and applies the default setting.
Also, LR (and any other non-Canon converter) can't read some of the 'info' in the Raw file, like picture styles for instance. That might explain another difference.

BTW: ACR whether in LR or just PS has ALWAYS given me a noticeable red->orange shift... the only way to overcome this is by using a preset as mentioned above. Not a perfect solution, but gets you closer. That's my biggest (and only?) gripe about ACR... that color shift. Adobe really needs to do a more thorough job of profiling (or reverse engineering) the RAW files to get proper colors consistently...
