Sure they're intended for computer use? IIRC Seagate makes 'em with 2 different interfaces - one for computers, PDAs and digital cameras and the other for building into MP3 players.

Frankly, I don't know. What are the last 2 letters on the model number? If they're FX, it's called an ATA-Flex interface and devices supporting that would work; if it's CF, then they're designed to work like any CF device.

Then it should work. What reader are you trying to format it with, and what computer?

It may not have enough power to spin the drive. Have you got a powered hub you can run it through?

A powered USB hub is one with its own power supply. Your laptop may not be supplying enough power to run the disk. However, if the camera can't format the card either, it probably won't work for recording the photos. Microdrives (as these are called) aren't all that popular nowadays since flash memory's gotten reasonably low priced. It may be best to 'fess up to the gift giver and say your camera isn't "good enough" to use the cards they gave you, and ask if they can be exchanged for some of the "cheap" flash drives.
