Some have shown an interest in this sort of thing, so, I give you a wide shot of last night's oat-based toroid breakfast cereal experiment:

Thanks for showing us. Where do you go from there? Pick a shutter and aperture that you want shoot chimp adjust or something more scientific?

And, now, I bring you the most ambitious TR series to date:

Gear Wars: Poster Art

That's great Dan. Can't wait for the series to start.

It's officially started. I've already have tomorrow's and Wednesday's strips inked and uploaded. My goal is to ink two a day now that they're all sketched and waiting.

I'm one of the aforementioned ones that have taken an interest in Flash Photography. I keep it at ISO 100-200 and chimp like crazy. I use the aperture to adjust the brightness of the flash. I set the speed to the synch speed of the camera, usually 1/200 or 1/250.

If you stert ending up wide open and want more DOF do you boost ISO?

Generally choose an aperture/ISO combination, take a shot, Look at the histogram, figure out how many stops up or down I need to go, and adjust accordingly. If I'm trying to achieve a particular DOF, I'll adjust ISO to get as close as I can.

The only diffusers are the walls the lights are aimed at. For Christopher's monthly photos, I use umbrellas.

That's one more thing. Depending on what I'm doing, I'll use a lower than sync speed for shutter to balance ambient, or affect how visible lamps will appear. This does require some trial and error, depending on whether I'm just balancing ambient, or attempting some sort of effect.

Balancing Ambient:

Not intentional. I was trying to phonetically write out the Bartles and James guy. Remember those commercials? The two old guys?

Oh yeah! I loved those guys

Sometimes, if my aperture is to wide open, I'll use the flash comp. There are so many different factors to adjusting the light, main ones being the flash comp and the aperture (I don't usually mess with the shutter speed unless I absolutely have to), that each person usually develops their own system and style of creating the right flash for the shots they're taking.
