I own a 10D and a 17-40mm lens. I would like to purchase a CP for the lens. Any recommendations? Also if I purchase a dark red filter is the 10d capable of taking IR photographs? I understand IR will require long exposure times. Thanks.

I don't know about IR, use the search function. As for the CP filters Hoya and B+W are both that I like. Which one? What is your price range? The more expensive the filter, the better the results that you get and so forth.

For CPL I'd suggest a B+W, Heliopan or Hoya Pro brands. With regard to IR photography, it can be done with an R72 filter, but you'll find the exposure times are quite long.

Here's an interesting link:

WGK,
Yes the 10D can take IR photos, I have taken a few with my 10D and a Hoya R72 IR filter :)
