So its given heavy rain for tomorrow evening and im a little apprehensive about using my 50D in the weather, I believe the 50d has better "weather sealing" but that could mean anything and certainly doesnt mean "weather proofing". do any of you guys have any experience of using DSLR`s in a downpour? I used my 400d in the rain for about 5 minutes once and it lived but risking the extra £££ on my 50D has me a little nervous!!!

Have just checked the Met Offices forecast for Manchester tomorrow. It's saying heavy rain 'til late afternoon, then drying up in the evening with good visibility. Fingers crossed.

From what I have read, the 50D is OK for use in fairly heavy rain. It's certainly got a lot better water resistance than the earlier xxD models and I have gotten my 20D fairly wet in the past (and also my 5D which is not supposed to be weather resistant either).

Bring along a supermarket carrier bag or two and use those to cover up if you are nervous, they don't keep all the water out but should be plenty of protection for a 50D. That's all I have ever used to protect mine in prolonged wet weather. I have had them out unprotected in showery weather and both have been pretty wet at times.

Does anybody know a good way to get my images small enough (150kb) ?

Ive tried resizing in photoshop but its pointless posting them because theyre so small.

also what about manchester southern cemetry for our next meet up?

Hi Sam,

What quality are you saving at? You should find you can get down to 150Kb, and still have a reasonably sized image (around 750 - 800 on the long side) without losing noticeable quality, using level 7 Jpegs.

Personally I don't worry about the file size, so don't try and get down to the 150k level. I notice that smirfs shots seem to be around 360k to over 400k each, and mine will be around the 150 - 200k mark too, I would expect. I typically aim for 800 pixels on the longside and they come in around 150k or a bit above.

You only need to worry about that 150k limit if you are attaching images (and I think that also limits you to two images only, per thread). You are better off hosting them elsewhere and embedding them, that gets you up to eight images per thread, up to 1024 x 1024 pixels and no file size limits.

I use Photobucket, it's free and easy to use. I just upload them to there and then embed them into the thread (photobucket puts the code under the image, you just need to click to copy and then paste on here).

Looking forward to seeing your shots, I should have mine up later tonight with any luck, I'm working on them now.
