Manchester Airport has a designated viewing area that could make for some interesting shots?

Other than that if youre just here for the day then id recommend coming into the city centre, theres plenty to shoot at the christmas markets and theres a good mix of victorian and modern architecture,

Whereabouts in Canada are you from Paul? I lived there for a while and have lots of family there too

It's at the Lowry Centre on Salford Quays.

If you really want to go there, get the train from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly, then at Piccadilly look for the 'Metrolink'. go onto the Metrolink platform, and get a return ticket to Harbour City. Then get a tram heading to Eccles. Get off at Harbour City, carry on walking in the direction the tram was going, the tram tracks go off to the right. Continue straight on and you will come to the Lowry Centre. But being honest it's not quite as photogenic during the day.

I'd agree with Big Sam, still get the train to Piccadilly, stay in the city centre, the Christmas German markets are superb.

Here's another suggestion for you Paul if time is tight: -

Only 3 or 4 miles from Manchester Airport, very photogenic.

That cloud stirred up a lot of noise in my shot! Blue banding at ISO 100, i was not happy!

What about Belle Vue racetrack for the next shoot?

Thoughts?

I made it to the hotel around 2:00 and took a nap until 6. I headed in by car and had a great eveing once traffic cleared from the match. You folks have a great city, just wish i had more of a chance to enjoy.
Work always gets in the way of play though

Thanks for the great info

Hey all,

I was directed to this thread by Sandpiper as a place to introduce myself to the Manchester folks. I'll be honest, I'm not sure on the general proceedings on a forum like this, so I'll keep it short.

I'm Ian, as you may have guessed; I live in Flixton but spend most weeks living in at uni in Liverpool. Ermm, I own a 450d with kit lens and 50mm f/1.8. Just starting out and I heard good things about this place, so thought it would be rude not to join up.

I've no idea how often you lot meet, or how big the Manchester contingent is, but having had a quick skim through this thread it looks like there are some great photographers. :)
