Hello all!, so I decided to upgrade the flash unit from built in to the 430EX, mainly cause most of my shots are portraits and built in flash (xti) was struggling a lot. So I tossed in an off-camera shoe cord + stofen diffy, while i was at it, for macro shots :) I am very happy with the unit, worth the money, a bit complex with all the features, but happy to learn it.

I haven't picked up a mount so basically its left hand holding the flash unit, and right hand on the camera. With my bod swaying back and fourth, he he.

Here's a couple test shots with the flash. From a technical standpoint please toss some general tips my way regarding settings.
I have only been testing with the manual mode with the flash unit. I think most of these shots were set at 1/32 flash power ?

Coconut sprinkled, coconut creme filled almond thingie. Ya know I ate this after I shot it, and I didn't' realize there was a piece of lint (black squiggly line in bottom right) stuck to it.

Looks like the flash is working well :)

I tend to use Ettl mode with the flash and just adjust FEC if necessary.

Thanks Brian, When I tried ETTL they came out a bit dark but didn't try messing with the FEC, i'll try it out next test set :)

If you are shooting against a white BG in ETTL mode you'll probably have to set around +1.3 FEC. With my 430EX I routinely use + .66 FEC.
