Is there any way to disable the focus ability from the shutter button on the 40D? I have C.Fn IV -2 set to "1: Enable". But the shutter is still focusing......Is there any way to separate this?

You want to use C.Fn IV -1 to move focus to the back.

C.Fn IV -2 lets you choose which rear button to use for focus after you set the other custom function. Enable means you are going to use the exposure lock button for focus instead of the new AF-ON button.

Sweet new gear for a photogenic new year!

Correct. But for some reason, the shutter button is also focusing. How do I stop the shutter button from focusing?

Here is what I set my 40D to in order to focus with the * button:
CFn IV: 1=3, 2=1, all others =0.
Hope that helps!

This is what I was looking for.......

You could always change to manual focus, then the shutter button and focus are in different places. :>
