First off, hey everyone!

I recently got a 70-200 f4 - not the best for birding, but certainly better than my 28-75

I'm not sure what kind of bird this is, anybody have a clue?

And I feel pretty lucky to get this picture of a Pileated woodpecker, despite how poor it is. There are a pair around my house all the time, just happened to see this guy at the edge of my field and didn't have quite enough reach!

I don't know what kind of bird that is but I like the 3d shot. I use my 70-200 for my attempts at birding. I also have a 1.4x tc. You might think about adding that to your bag for a bit more reach.

Love the second shot. Sometimes the length of lens is not as important as you think. Especially if you're shooting around your own feeders.
Nice work.

I suppose it would help if we knew where the poster took the shots eh?

Haha - I had it but accidentally deleted it...I took them in New Hampshire. I did a little research on my own and I also think they are pine grosbeaks.

Coming from the UK as I do, I had them down as our native bird with the twisted beak, the Crossbill. Apologies for that.

Nice captures for 200mm. Could use some more light either from Flash or lightening in post-processing.

I have taken some really nice bird images with my 70-200 f/2.8 but the key is to be able to get very close. My wife will hand feed Chickadees, Titmice and such bringing them in close. Then I can pretty much fill the frame with a small bird and a 70-200.

I think this is an outstanding series! It's tough to get good captures in the brush like that, and those of the bird eating berries are fantastic. I'd be very proud of these, regardless of the glass used. Good post!

That particular lens is fine for Pine Grosbeaks as they are quite a tame bird and allow close approach. They do appear a tad dark, but a fine series!
