I ordered the body only $1500 - 10% discount from ricardo_montoya@dell.com (external link). His number is 800-456-3355 ext: 45687

Tell him my friend "Ken Winn" got the 10% discount and I would like the same.
Good luck,
Ken

P.S1:
I don't get any anything out of this; just help out my fellow members

If one can get a 10% discount then that proves a point I made yesterday, that the 20D is available everywhere (in the US at least).

But with Dell you will have sales tax. So the net amount will not be much difference.

I heard from a few people that the 10% discount offer from Dell don't apply anymore to cameras. I guess they got sick and tired of selling Mark II's for dirt cheap hehe...

The Dell rep (Ricardo) told me that Dell is getting a shipment of (170) 20D on Sep 17th.
He gave me 10% discount + FREE 2nd day shipping.

Dell doesn't charge tax on some states. Unfortunately, CA is not one of those states.

hehehe... hey Sketcher, remember me. I was the one who first posted the DELL 70-200 IS deal here.
Unfortunately, no price mistake here. So it seems like I'm getting the camera sometimes next week.

For the benefit of those new to the forum, a brief history lesson:

Last year, Dell advertised the 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens for $1,299.95 less 10% ($1,169.00). This was at a time when the lens was selling for around $1,600 at places like B&H.

Sketcher, in a weak and possibly foolish moment, decided to single-handledly try to make order out of chaos. His efforts went on for months.

For the rest of the story, (6 pages worth) check out this thread. It's interesting reading, if for no other reason than you will see how we all speculated endlessly about whether Dell would eventually come through, and whether or not they were bad guys, or good guys trying to make the best of a bad situation.

The bottom line: Everyone (I think) that ordered the lens from Dell got it, although it took months in some cases. We've heard different numbers, but everyone agrees that at least 500 people took advantage of the offer before Dell was able to remove it from their website. Dell did come through, and we'll probably never know if it was a mistake, a marketing ploy, or what. In that regard, I wouldn't be skeptical of the 10% discount on a 20D now. They do things like this from time to time.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

FYI, my local camera store called me today. The 20D is IN STOCK, and, if I had the cash ready (I don't; I hadn't expected it so soon), I could pick it up today. The battery grip will be a few days delayed.
