I just got a couple Pocket Wizards plus II yesterday. Mounted one on the camera hotshoe and boy oh boy does it look weak! Is it going to stay on the hotshoe ? it sure looks like I could knock it off very easy. It kinda worries me that i will knock it off or it wil fall off. Even after tightening down wth the screw down knob this big ole walkie talkie looking thing looks like the first time I hit against it it will fall off. I did some searches and found some good ways to mount them to tripods or light stands using the cable, but hand holding looks like its coming off the first time I brush against it or hit it. Anyone have this problem or am I just worrying too much? Any mods to mount it in a different
way?

I'm not a fan of mounting it on the camera. I use the lanyard and put it around my neck or just velcro to the tripod. The originals were much smaller and had a clip on the sender. I miss those small units, but they do not work with digital systems.

Got PW this month [December] and made a post like this one too ~ for their price, the foot is rather weak.

But worse, I accidentally bought one from the USA to make a set of three, but they were different frequencies, but that's not the point, I could almost turn the US PW around in the hotshoe and I could not tighten it down.

Since then I've two more EU PWs and they are much better fitting.

What are you talking about? Pocket Wizards are totally platform agnostic, they'll work fine with digital systems.

And I've been using mine on the hotshoe for a couple months now, never had a problem with it...

Well, I solved my problem. Maybe not a problem but put and end to my worries about my PW falling off my camera hotshoe and falling on the floor and me stepping on it or my dog eating it:D I super glued a very thin piece of plastic to the shoe on the PW and now have a more snug fit. I have to do something about this OCD problem of mine.

The PW Classic is not compatible with digital. I heard the phrase "latching" is the problem.

Most of the PWs have the same foot like that (!). Don't wory too much. Don't tighten it too much, it then gets harder to release.

Doesnt the PW have a screw collar to tighten it down onto the camera??

I also noticed this with my PW Plus II's. They aren't that flimsy on the hotshoe, but they do move around a little with force.

Yes, but they are weak and don't actually screw too well or securely and as mentioned already they lock if over tightened but can still be slipped off the hot shoe.

I have a similar problem with the $15 Chinese RF-04 transmitter, the PW foot is not much better ~ but there the comparison ends.

Yea Ive had my eye those, but havent seen anyone do a review or a thread on them yet... Was waiting to hear others' experiences. Might have to just break down and get them myself. The only thing Im worried about is the bunjie... What happens if it breaks or gets too stretched out. Doesnt look replaceable...

edit.... just ordered 3 from FlashZebra, will try and do a review/write up thread once they come in.

It's easy to attach to the PW with a coin but no opening for PW' battery replacement, you need to detach it for that job. There is another design on the market with battery opening (I will look for and post the link)
Bunjie can be replaced with the similar type manually. There are two simple knots at the ends.

Do you think this is a problem? One would not be changing the batteries too often ~ I suspect but don't know. :)
