I'm considering a jump to a 1D MK III but wonder if I should wait until Jan. 24th. Does anyone think that I'll regret buying a MK III now given that Canon might say something in a few weeks? I know - if you wait for the next greatest thing then you will spend your life waiting. That's not me but four weeks isn't forever.

I want an MK III primarily for autofocus performance.

BTW - my wife says, "Just buy the camera and quit obsessing!" :)

Just buy it.

There won't be a new 1D announced in january.

like Tommy said, there will not be anything 1D related in Jan. unless you are considering a 5D instead.

Another option is buy a 1dmk2n for its autofocus performance (2600$ used) and the in jan24 when/if they release a 5d replacement, then buy that too (guessing 2500ish)
hehe.. Two superb bodies for About the same cost as a 1dm3 yes?

Ok those were my initial plans but I ended up just getting the 1dm3 because I just wanted one body to do it all.

I highly doubt they would release a "1dmk3n" in january that secretly fixes AF issues of the 1dmk3. That would be an absolute revolt. Enough to make me sell all canon gear and go nikon.

Mine works flawlessly and has beautiful IQ, it is a pleasure to shoot with, the only thing that sucks about it is reading those threads where folks bought pre-fix models and are understandably hurting, also the odd ones, the one in thousands of body posts that have problems post "blue dot".....If it were me and I got a bad "blue dot" I'd surely send it back. Just buy from a reputable dealer and do as your wife says:)

I agree - highly doubt they will release a follow up to the Mark III in Jan. I was tempted to wait for the new 5D, but realized that everything I wanted in a camera was already available in the Mark III. It's more camera than I need at this point, but I'm thrilled with it. Gorgeous IQ, rich colors, great, quick AF and low noise all in a weather sealed body. I can't say enough good things about this camera. (Needless to say I got a "good" blue dot MkIII.) :)
