EF 300/4 L IS is a great lens. Bang for the buck as well if you ask me. Especially if you also like macro work. Loved mine but sold it when I got the 2.8 IS version. Figured I shouldn't have two 300's. Miss the f/4 IS though. Work you way up and start with the f/4 IS. Yes, when it comes to TCs, the 2.8 IS shines like no other lens.

I owned the bigma and the 300 F4 non IS. Sold both and got the 300F2.8 and 2xTC. Best purchase I ever made.

The F4 had the size/weight advantage and it took 77mm filters.
