There has been a huge swell on the east coast of Australia for the past few days. I took these this afternoon with the 70-200 F2.8 and sometimes it was too long. We could almost touch these blokes as they surfed past. They were surfing at the boat ramp inside the harbour, normally a serene piece of water:

Nice shots. 3 is best to me b/c can almost see entire height of wave which with the surfer in the shot gives you perspective of how large the wave is

Shooting from the parking lot next to the boat ramp, about 6-8 ft above water level, and maybe 40-50 ft from the action. In fact, 200mm lens was too close a lot of the time.

these are real cool shots - we had some big waves during a big storm inside the breakwaters in Sevastopol harbor 2 months ago, ripped up the harbor side...

i love #1 - and #3 is a real classic look - nice!

haha - I wish! That last big storm made me think about it though - that is for sure! I bet a long board would have worked in the harbor that weekend! it got pretty dirty though - lots of oil and debris from the messed up harbor area though... too bad - a board would have been fun! but i think the amount of boards in all of Ukraine can be counted with no hands :-( - i heard the swell gets up on the east end of the Black Sea though on the Russian coast - havent seen that myself though... maybe just during storms - like in Texas!
