Thought you might like to see what 12 locomotive looks like. There was no train....just locomotives.

Forgive the narrow DOF. I shot this with the 600.

I think I agree with both of you! I often confine myself to the 2:3 aspect ratio. I ought to think outside the box more.

I wouldn't worry about that too much if I was you. A lot of people do that. People think that the photo you have taken with in the frame is what it should be. You shouldn't worry about aspect ratio when it comes to photos. You have to let the photo speak to you. it will tell you what shape it should be.

There is no right/wrong shape for a photo.

I often use 4x5 as I find it can get rid of excess "space" and make the composition look 10x better. I try different size crops to see what works best, different crops can place your subject into different areas of the frame.

Wow, are they all controlled from the lead engine?

Some of our Central Queensland Coal trains are over 4km long with remotely controlled engines in the middle.

A good crop can spark up lots of images...I try lots of different aspect ratios...just for the heck of it.

Yup. They're all controlled by a single crew. I don't know where thee were headed, but only 3 or 4 of them were actually working. The others were dead.
