What, (besides control my 430) can I do with the 580II flash and 1DmkIII. Any good links I should be looking at. It seems I can contriol the functions of the 580II through my Flash CF's in the mkIII menu...I have very limited experience with the 430 (I use it, but not often) but I wanted to be able to conrol the 430 off camera for more creative lighting.
Any other cool things with thre mkIII/580II combo?
Thanks

Cool, just found a PDF manual for the 580II and have done a lot of research. Don't have the flash "in hand" yet but hoping to get to know it a bit before I get it so i'm not reading the manual while I have said flash in hand.
The last system I owned before Canon was a Sony a100, maybe..... the only thing.... I miss about the a100 was that the flash was controlled remotely, fun to place the unit in various locations to play with the light.

I have both flashes and I like the 580 EX II a lot better than the 430. Here are the reasons:

1.) More power
2.) Faster recycle time
3.) longer battery life
4.) **HUGE PLUS** I can control all of the flash functions (including custom functions) from my 40D. I don't have to have the flash manual with me to know what the custom functions are for.
5.) It has a pc port for pocket wizards
6.) The hotshoe lock is vastly improved AND weatherproof.
7.) The flash itself is weather-proof. Coupled with my 1D/70-200L the entire setup is weather-proof.
8.) I have not used this yet, but I am eager to: It has a strobe mode. You can do some pretty neat stuff with strobe mode.
9.) The controls are vastly improved in comparison with the 430EX
10.) I now have a wireless master so I can use the 430 as a slave.
11.) A cool little "catchlight" white card pops up out of the head to be used with bouncing.

Are these enough reasons?

Here is my custom bracket made by me :lol:It's combo of 580EXII on top + 430EX on the side + Battery pack for 580EXII and + PW .

What I do is ...I set my Alien Bees (2) where I need for group shot or family shot at the reception then turn PW on ,turn off 580 and 430 .

580 and 430 use only when I walk around for candid shot and then I turn off PW .The flash will spread out even to the photo ,the problem is if I only use 1 flash 580 the horizontal is ok ,but the vertical shot is not good enough ,the flash will not contribute even around the photo .So now when I add another flash on the side ,that would be enough flash for vertical shot .

That is so nice about 580EXII is that trigger the 430 .

I used my 5D with Metz to take the bracket sample ,so I don't have any photo of that set up yet ,I'll post the photo by this weekend .

**** dude, it looks like a MARS ROVER! If the camera was able to flip vertical, it would be 100% perfect. I like how you have the CP-E4 mounted.

Very light weight ...because it's made out of aircraft alluminium (70 thousand of an inch thiskness).

It's ingenious because it's so simple. The more I look at this the more I like it.
