Is it a good idea? If so, what brand? I see Sage warranties carried by B&H.

Thanks!

Never purchased extended warranties and never will, I used my Visa to extend the Canon warranty by 1 year, so I am covered for 2 years.

As for insurance you bet, never leave home without it, I bought about 10K worth of what is called a personal articles policy from State Farm that covers theft, damage etc.

Cost was $140 CDN with no deductible, IMO you have to have insurance on this stuff.

amen to all of that. i never bought an extended warranty on any of my items but for me, insuring your gear is a must and a total no brainer. i mean, i pay about $200 a year which gives me piece of mind knowing that my entire kit is covered no matter what. think about it this way: the warranty will pay for itself the first time you drop a lens or lose an item.

From my experience, most people shop on PRICE.

Most people are quick to shout out it's worthless. Never drop your camera? ever had to replace a shutter? get a lemon?

I'm just AMAZED that people are unwilling to spend a little more to protect their gear, when they're spending $4,000+. It's like getting a mk3 and flipping out about a $100 memory card. Just amazed.

As far as insurance, a must. wouldn't buy anything without it. It's just another level of protection. I have insurance form State Farm on my gear but I will not just leave my stuff in the car.

As far as the warranty company(Sage), i'd do some research, haven't really heard of them.

I have both and bought the 3 yr warranty from mack for my mkIII....just in case, I think it was only like $130 for 3 yrs, seems like a bargain for peace of mind. Plus, if I decide to sell the mkIII someday, like to upgrade to the mkIV I can transfer the warranty to the buyer, seems like a good sales incentive

I agree with you Matt. The extended warranty is peace of mind.

Thanks for all of the responses. I have State Farm home owners insurance and auto insurance. I already have special riders for electronic equipment. Seems easy enough to just call my agent and add the special coverage for the camera gear.
