Good morning Godfather - it became past my bedtime, and 5:45 a.m. comes quite early in the work day

Thank you for posting the EXIF data - ye taarif ke qabil hai - looking at your most recent picture again, I'm going to guess that it is at least 3-stops overexposed and possibly 4. I would suggest the following change in exposure. Keep the ISO the same at 200 as I think that will still be fine.

You are already at f/22 so you can't go any smaller. The alternative then is to increase your shutter speed to have the effect of reducing your exposure. Remember back to the relationship between shutter speed and aperture (my earlier chart). Keeping that in mind, 3 stops would be about 3 shutter speeds. You are currently at 1/15 second, so change that to 1/125 and that should get you in the ballpark. If it is still overexposed you can change it to 1/250, or you could even halve your ISO to 100. That would be the equivalent of cutting the exposure by one more stop. - Stu

hi, I wasnt at 1/15, I was at 15" only. I think ITs the correct thing, as I could see 1/125 very far away from the 15".

So please correct my.

Sorry about that godfather - mein abhi samjha - my mistake; I should have read it more closely.:o With a shutter speed of 15 seconds my suggestion would then be to reset it to 2 seconds. That would be the equivalent of about 3-stops of light reduction.

Tried to shoot at a hour before the time I took the pics yesterday. F16, shutter speed 10 sec.

Nice work godfather - I applaud your efforts :D. You see, so much is about timing and the nature of light. You are exploring and discovering those times of the day that give you what you prevision.

Now with an exposure adjustment layer if you wanted, you could tone down the bright highlights of the window areas. Some folks like to take care of that with HDR, but that's not one of my areas of strength.

How can that exposure layer be done?

Ooooh boy - I'm not at my home PC right now, but I will try to do this by memory.

Basically you want to work with 2 exposure layers (at least). Your current overall exposure is pretty good for most of the image. We want to keep that because it looks pretty even. The highlighted area needs to be improved because detail has been lost in the extreme brightness.

Go to LAYER -> DUPLICATE LAYER. This will create a second layer that we will use to reclaim some of the blown highlight.

Then go to IMAGE -> ADJUSTMENTS -> EXPOSURE. You can do a couple of things at this point. You can either decrease the overall exposure (similar to using a smaller f-stop) or you can increase the the GAMMA which will increase the black level in the highlight. Modify the image until the designate area appears as you would like it to.

After you have made these adjustments, go to LAYER - > LAYER MASK -> HIDE ALL. I'm trying to do all this from memory so it may not be exact. When this is complete, select the PAINT BRUSH and start "painting out" the area you wish to have improved. You can set the opacity for anywhere from 0 - 100% depending upon how much you want to show through. - Stu

thanx for so much detailed answer. But I really could not see the difference in both the pics by first creating a duplicate layer ,then by decreasing the exposure and then changing the opacity.

After chaning the opacity, it comes to the original by a slight darkening. Dont know if I am doing wrong.

OK, I did the same thing in Lightroom and I Think I did it. But it need some practice to do, coz I lost the sharpness and contrast. Also, not to forget it has been taken with the kit lens.

I may have provided an incorrect command sequence there - when I get to my home PC I will double check those steps. It should look a little differnet when it's done properly.

Let's see what the Light Room result looks like.

OK - I just checked out your latest LR results: Beautiful blue sky with nice saturation, good exposure on the building which shows both detail and the fact that it is dusk.

The exposure work on the inside of the building is different and sort of hard to describe. I think part of that is because that light is a different color temperature than what you are working with OUTSIDE of the building. But it almost looks like a color illustration inside - and perhaps that's from a bit too much exposure adjustment to that part of the image. Given the circumstances it may be unavoidable.
