Hello Sir,
I have got an oppurtunity to click some pics of my biking group and to send them to a nationwide magazine here.

So I have only my kit lens and a 50mm 1.8. With which lens I should shoot the pics. I decided to take my 50mm.

What you say? Any special setting for moving objects?

Sounds like you should have fun time. Although I admire bikes I confess to not knowing much about them - they can be very beautiful machines. When shooting them in motion you probably want to use at LEAST 1/500 sec if not faster. Also, the faster the shutter speed, the shallower the DOF you can use which will throw the background pleasantly out of focus.

Namaste.
Sir, should I use shutter priority then?

bilkul :D - that would work out quite well. Then you could experiment with slightly slower shutter speeds to give you greater DOF and see which results pleases you the most.

yours too Sir.
One more question, what all are filters? I was looking on ebay, and found only some CPL filters. What are they and whats are their benefits?

As far as filters go, you get what you pay for. The cheap ones will actually cause problems for you if you are in extreme lighting conditions that reveal their lack of coatings, or poor coatings.

I use a CPL for almost all my outdoor work. When used properly it will reduce glare/flare, improve contrast and saturation, and enhance apparent sharpness of the image by doing all of the above. B+W, Heliopan, Hoya Pro-1 are your better brands, but a bit pricey. A good place to buy online I am told is hvastar.com (?). These threads may provide some info too:

Hello Sir,
I am going to participate in a college Competition on Saturday. They will give us a theme on the spot on which we have to take photos. IW ill be using my kit lens and 50mm1.8. I am happy with 50m. But want to know, that on what setting aperture shutter speed etc my kit lens would work fine with minimal CA??

Hey there Godfather - good to see you again :D Shubh Divas . I don't think I'd be too concerned about chromatic aberration (CA) . Likely they will be more concerned with composition, creativity/thought process.. that sort of thing.

You want to select a shutter speed that will be high enough so you don't get any blurring through camera shake (maybe 1/125) or subject movement, and you want an aperture that will give you adequate depth of field, (f/8 is a good compromise) if you want most of the composition in reasonable focus. Of course a lot will depend upon available light and the ISO you choose. You would do the opposite though if you wanted a minimum DOF.

Out of curiousity, what college are going to?

Namaste Sir,

I have some questions, what are 1.4 1.2 etc etc convertors? I have seen some listed on ebay labelled Macro Convertor. What are these?

Hey there godfather - good hearing from you; Namaste.:D

I think you may be combining two types of gear in your question. There are teleconverters for giving your lens a little bit of a telephoto effect, and then there are macro lenses and extension tubes for allowing you to do macro (very close up) photography.

Canon sells a 1.4 and 2.0 TC (teleconverter). The first would make a 100mm lens act like a 140mm telephoto. The second would make the same lens act like 200mm. But both would also result in some loss of light.

Extension tubes typically come in 3 different sizes, and mount between the mody and lens, just like the TC. They allow you to move closer to the object with the lens, enabling you to perform extreme closeup photography.

Thankyou Sir.
Also, I am planning to buy two lenses. I have also made a query thread here in this regard. But need yours opinion on the first step. I have decided to buy sigma 17-70 and Canon 55-250 IS. To get a range from 17-250mm. I need 17-70 because of its WA and 2.8 aperture and 55-250 for Telephoto range. Should I go for it?

Or is there any lens which completes the purpose of these two?
