Font size in PS CS

I am puzzled...


I add my name to my photos after I have resized them to 800 on longest edge.

What puzzles me is that sometimes I have to use 6 pkt size for the text sometimes 8 pkt to get the text the same size on the photo. But just now on a 20D image I had to go all the way up to 18 pkt to get the same size text??? I have used the same font always.

What is up with that?

I never touch dpi so its whatever is standard in PSCS and the images from the camera.

its definately a dpi thing.

try it - make an image 800x600 at 72dpi and type with 14 point verdana.
now make an image 800x600 at 120dpi and type the same

Why not just get it right and perfect once, and save it. Then cut & paste the signature image on top of every image?

Yeah I should probably do that. Can I save the layer blending options with the text so I don't have to set that every time too?

Should work... make the sig image 2 layers, bottom one simply transparent. The layer with the sig can now have blending options retained. I figure that a single-layer image can't have blending options, so this should sneak you by.

what sort of blending are you talking about?

For example drop shadow.

in that case you should use layer styles.
Use layer/layer style/drop shadow.

Layer styles are perfect for this sort of thing

I don't think that's going to do any good because he's still going to have the same problem. What he need to do to get consistent fonts sizes is to make all his images the same dpi. In my case, my signature action always sets the dpi to 300 first, then it types in my name. Evilenglishmen hit it on the head with his dpi reference.
