I can't figure out this one: 1. You must Tee your Ball within a Club's length of the Hole.

IIRC they didnt have seperate tee and green areas in those days - you played the entire game on what would now be classed as fairway. A set of holes would simply be cut into an area of parkland

Oh, I see. So that means that after holing out and preparing to tee off for the following hole, you must tee up within a club's length of the hole you just completed.

Exactly.

You have to remember that golf clubs in those days were simply a collection of individuals who would play together - courses as we know them hadn't really been organised.

Anyway - where is LR? He has been awfully quiet of late.
