Hi everyone,

I have noticed that the background bokeh when using this lens are quite distorted.

Is this the same as other lens? Does anyone think it is a problem?

I am looking to buy this lens and like the sharp images it produces but now having second thoughts about the blurry background.

TIA

Mikey

If it produces streaky bokeh, this is usually because of a poor quality filter infront of it.

Surely it isn't just down to a filter. If you didn't have filter it would be fine?

The 70-300 does have a rather nervous bokeh. Not much you can do about it except get a better lens. :) I enjoyed my 70-300 when I had it, though I thought the bokeh wasn't particularly good unless I was doing macro with it.

I don't have any samples, just looking at what everyone else has posted.

In terms of value for money I don't think you can beat this lens. I've had mine for 2 years and enjoy using it. Sure, if I could afford a better lens, I would buy a better lens but this one has served me proud.

Resurrecting the thread - I got mine last summer but haven't used it much. Just this morning I shot this from my window:

The head is blurry because there was a very OOF branch in front of it.

I stripped the EXIF so I could get it down to 150KB - this was 300 mm @ f/5.6 (wide open), ISO 800, 1/2000 second. USM of 0.5, 300, 0.

Is there something strange about the bokeh? I don't see it...
