I searched, but there's little written about this button. The owner's manual describes its use on p38, and on p84 warns that it can't be used to select the AF point. Seems like a useless button to me. Anyone found a good use for it yet? I think it would be a perfect tool to select the AF point while holding the camera to the eye.
Oh well,
phil

It seems to be used to navigate blown up images on the LCD and to toggle to center AF point only..

I find it's lack of use for AF points baffling as well. I thought that was the only good use for it on the 20D/30D.. (and a very good use for it indeed!)

Moving around your menus?
Moving the zoomed in area of the Live View to where you need it?

It is, in the 20D, 30D, 40D and 5D. One thing I sort of wish they'd allowed in the 1D III, but I can see their reasoning - it's probably not precise enough to be useful when you've got 19 possible AF points. You can also use it to select a previously-registered AF point (pp. 84, 171, CF III-10-1)

I do haveit set up to grab the previously registered AF point,. my mistake in mentioning center AF point above. Half the time thats my registered so I forgot the details.

I've been without the thing for so long I barely recall what it looks like. :)
