I'm guessing it's a stork(?) but don't know much about them so have no idea what kind or whether it's normal for them to visit this part of australia (i'm near brisbane)
I can say it was impressively tall!Over a meter for sure

Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus (external link), Black-necked Stork, Female according to Wikipedia anyway. Really big bird, good looking shot.

No wonder it rang a bell -these are the birds i once saw on some nature doco filmed in India

Sadly i didn't have much chance to get a shot without fences ,etc in the background.Taken handheld with a pentax 500/4 on the 400D.I was sweating after carrying that thing around,lol
