Hi,
Can anyone tell me why I can only have 3 lines to my sig as when I look at others they seem to have lots more space. Are they pasting that detail manually everytime?

Thanks Kevin, If you look at my sig it has 3 lines yes? I can't add a blank line of another line with text either, I just don't understand it.

If I add Alby on a new line I get: 1. Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 5 line(s).

After your last line of your signature press the down key instead of enter and try entering something, should work.

That worked for 4 lines but I can't do this:

1 Alby
2
3 Gear List
4 http://www.flickr.com/photos/alby_oakshott/ (external link)
5 Spring Macro Meet 2008 Why not Join In

Which I count as 5 lines.

Get to the start of the sentence "gear list" and then press back space.

Sorted it, I had to go into editor mode as the code lines in there were too long making 7 lines. Thanks for all your help chaps ;)

I've never understood this. Some users have a lot more than five lines in their signatures. For example, Jon has eight lines in his signature.

I wonder what actually constitutes a 'line'.

You and many other wonders. Including me. It seems that vb take font size etc into account when calculating lines.

Also remember some of the long signatures was created before the signature rules was implemented which was dont at the last software upgrade. If those members edit their signature now they will get an error. I am not sure but it might be possible that mods can have a few more lines. I have not checked.

I'm glad it's not just me then!

I kept getting that error message when I was messing around formatting my signature, but I didn't have five physical lines. I have got it under control now and post my details in the Gear thread!

Another thing is that when using the wysiwyg editor then sometimes alot of bbcodes are left in even though they are not used but they are counted. So if you get an error try to switch to the standard editor so you see the actual bbcodes in the signature.

I just type it out and add the formatting code manually. I have still got the original problem on here that I was going on about when I first joined! None of the formatting buttons or smileys work in the text editor. Also, it will frequently format all my text as one block, with no consistency in its behaviour, so I often type the formatting code too.

I have got used to it now, but virtually every post I ever make on here I have to go back into and edit the code to get it to display properly - sometimes several times. Sometimes it will do a different thing each time, so it's impossible to predict how it is going to display my post.

I have remembered a few smiley shortcuts that call the full display code when the post is entered, but that's my limit at the moment! These ones: :-) :-D ;-)a :-( 8)
