I put an ebay diffuser on my two flashguns 420EX and 430EX then took these two photos....

Which do you think had the diffuser?

I have no idea of what you're trying to show us. Can you explain?

Yes it is a child's science project. Can you tell which picture used a diffused flash? I honestly can't although I know which photo I had the ebay plant pots on my flashes.

I'm not sure why I would want to know which image had the diffuser. I just don't get it. What is the point of shooting this image? Is there something scientific you are demonstrating?

Even if I could tell which had the diffuser I'm just missing the point. Maybe it's me.

Ignore the subject. The point is - can you even tell an ebay plant-pot diffuser was ever used?

No because they're equally harsh direct-flash crappy.

That's pretty much my opinion. I didn't figure that given their size, they would make any difference. The face is no bigger than the flash lens. The only thing they do is to reduce light output and spill some around the top, bottom and sides.

I would be more impressed by a diffuser that was shaped similarly to a funnel with silvering on the inside of the funnel and a white diffusion panel on the wide end of the funnel. As I see it the object of flash diffusion is to spread the light in order to make it look as if the light source was bigger. Now that will reduce shadows and even out the highlights. These dinky diffusers don't cut the cheese!

Show us what the diffuser looks like. I'm curious.

At the risk of speaking for Robert, I don't think he was referring to the subject. I think he was asking what was the point of the "test".

I'd like to see it done with all things being equal (including the angle of the shot) except the diffuser.

The third one looks a bit softer, but if I was not told the diffusers were used, I would say they still look like bare flash.

Here you go. One fits over the 430EX and one over the 420EX.

Oh it's a Sto-fen wannabe. They're not made for direct flash.
