On Amazon.com the BG-E2N is going for $176 while the old BG-E@ is $259? Both are new as far as I can tell.

What's up with that? Shouldn't the older one, without the seal, be cheaper?

They are two different vendors selling on Amazon. Check "sold by..." thing underneath the price.

I understand that, but I would expect that market conditions would keep prices in line regardless of the vendor.

You would, but some stores subscribe to the PT Barnum philosophy, others simply don't have the turnover to be able to offer the lowest realistic prices and still others may have mislabeled the product being offered. We had a thread back a while ago where someone suspected counterfeit BP-511A batteries when one vendor hadn't updated the battery picture and was showing the original BP-511.

You should expect that from competitive vendors. Now, I don't know anything about any of the two vendors you listed so I can't say how competitive they are or how reliable they are. I consider B&H price a baseline and go from there because they update their prices very frequently and remain competive. For example, it's sort of like finding a Canon 40D for $1199 or whatever at B&H and full MSRP price of $1499 at Best Buy.

I got a BG-E2N from Amazon through the seller Cameta Camera. I think it is gray market since it came with an international warranty card.
