Man I feel stupid having to ask for help with something like this, especially since I KNOW its just something simple and dumb that I am missing to make everything work just fine. I have been searching all over the web and cant find anything.

I have a brand new 5D that I just got today. Was taking pictures with it in M mode with a flash. When in to the menu, started playing with some of the custom functions and other options, set it down and left it for a while, came back slapped on the fisheye and the next thing I know I cant get it to take any pictures. Not only that it also wont let me access the Menu or play back any previously taken images.

Heres the stranger part... I have this problem with all modes except for AUTO mode... That mode seems to work fine. Also while in any other of the other modes the top screen seems to give the proper read outs and seems to be functioning properly.

Yes I have tried several lenses all with the same results. This almost feels like I have set a wrong setting and locked myself out of my camera! Please tell me what I am missing here! Thanks everyone!

Don't get lightruled... you'll regret it :D

What do you mean "can't get it to take any pictures"?

Troubleshooting 101 (see also: LightRules,perryge):
1) RTFM.
2) Repeat Step 1.

Well it wont auto focus, and wont snap a shot (ie lift shutter and take a picture). It will adjust the lens aperture when I rotate the wheel (like when Im in Av mode). Its just that the shutter button wont do anything.

Like I said before I know this is just something simple that Im missing since it was working an hour ago, but I cant for the life of me figure it out. So Id rather be thought dumb when someone tells me what stupid thing Im missing and have a working camera again than to sit here getting ready to throw it against a wall and then return it!

I tried that and it would not reset anything. I even took the main battery out AND the date/time battery, left it for about 5-10 minutes and then but them both back in and all that did was clear the date and time out. Still same problem...

That's not a common thing I've heard. To me, it sounds like something is wrong with the camera.

I would except I cant access the menu from and of the mode other than AUTO and in the AUTO menu there is no option to reset to factory settings.

sad to say but it sounds to me like your gonna end up putting it back in the box and returning it for repair or exchange.

my 5D is literally in transit to me for delivery tomorrow.
I cant even imagine taking it outta the box and having trouble after a few shots....
I'll puke.

I know, I am pretty disappointed about it... Luckily I still have the 40D, but I was really looking forward to playing with this camera today!

No one else has any other suggestions??? Where are the 5D owners? Surely some of you must have something I could try that I havent thought of!?!?!

Pleeeese?

I'm sorry Ben, everyone's told you anything that I could think of.... Seriously, I had my 5D for over a year and never had anything like this. I'm at a total loss. Especially since taking both batteries out didn't solve it.

Maybe someone else will know. At least costco has a no hassle return policy.

Hey Ben, I would suggest you call Canon (1-800-652-2666) and explain to them your problem. And be sure to keep us updated! Goodluck!!

Darn... Well I was afraid of hearing that... Well at least I don't have to feel dumb I guess... And yea you're right, I know Costco will have no problem taking it back, its just that I wanted my 5D NOW! lol
...Patience young one, patience...

I just dont understand why it works in AUTO mode. That makes me really think its something simple that I have to do to get it working again...
